In Vitro Screening of Sugarcane Cultivars (Saccharum spp. Hybrids) for Tolerance to Polyethylene Glycol-Induced Water Stress

چکیده

Water stress caused by drought affects the productivity of sugarcane crop. A breeding alternative is selection drought-tolerant cultivars. The objective this study was in vitro screening cultivars tolerant to water using polyethylene glycol (PEG) as a stressing agent. Cultivars (cv) Mex 69-290, CP 72-2086, 79-431 and MOTZMex 92-207 were subjected different concentrations PEG 6000 (0, 3, 6 9% w/v) Murashige Skoog semi-solid culture medium. At 30 days culture, developmental variables dry matter (DM), total protein (TP), proline (Pr) glycine-betaine (GB) contents evaluated. results showed reduced development cv with increasing concentration. 69-290 tolerance osmotic −0.45 MPa 3% PEG. Overall, TP content decreased concentration, while DM, Pr GB rose concentration all evaluated Our suggest that has slight could be used for rainfed cultivation low rainfall or irrigation better use efficiency. In conclusion, technique PEG-induced an early determination sugarcane.

Direct Somatic Embryogenesis for Rapid , Cost Effective Production of Transgenic Sugarcane ( Saccharum Spp . Hybrids )

During the last decade, considerable effort has been expended in developing an efficient transformation system for sugarcane. Most protocols employ microprojectile bombardment of gene constructs into embryogenic sugarcane callus. The numbers of transgenic plants produced per bombardment range from 0.1-20 globally, with genotype response and selection regime appearing to be the most important fa...

Effect of silicon application on wheat seedlings growth under water-deficit stress induced by polyethylene glycol

Silicon is known to ameliorate the deleterious effects of drought on plant growth. We evaluated growth of wheat (Triticum aestivum L. CV. Chamran) under Water-Deficit Stress Induced by Polyethylene Glycol as affected by Si application. In this article, the effects of Si (as potassium silicate) on some parameters related to growth, chlorophyll concentration relative water content (RWC), electrol...

Comparing the effects of polyethylene glycol-induced drought stress and paclobutrazol on six cultivars of Medicago sativa

This investigation was carried out with the aim of determining the effect of polyethylene glycol 6000 (PEG; 0, 3%, 6% and 9% w/v) treatment on six cultivars of Medicago sativa. PEG treatment significantly decreased the germination index in cultivars of Isfahani, Hamedani, Bami, Baghdadi, Yazdi and Ghare-Medicago, with the highest reduction in Ghare-Medicago and Hamedani cultivars by about 50% a...
